Nerja Cave
The Nerja Cave was discovered on January 12, 1959, by five young men from Maro while exploring a well known as the “Maro Cemetery Mines.” Fascinated by its vastness, they initially named it the “Cave of Wonders.”
Open to the public since 1960, its breathtaking beauty and exceptional acoustics have made the Nerja Cave Festival a landmark event for music and dance. Managed by the Patronato, the cave is open year-round with uninterrupted morning and afternoon visiting hours. From our hotel, we provide tickets in advance, making it easier for you to visit this spectacular natural monument.
Puente del Águila
Puente del Águila is an aqueduct located at kilometer point 294.900 of the N-340 national road. It’s not uncommon to see tourists photographing this impressive structure, known as Puente del Águila by the locals of Maro. The viaduct, which allows the road to cross the Maro ravine, is the perfect spot to admire this remarkable feat of engineering.
Maro had a prosperous past linked to the sugarcane industry. The industrial growth related to sugarcane during the second half of the 19th century was particularly significant. Although no official records confirm the exact date of the aqueduct’s construction, it is believed to have been built between 1879 and 1880—coinciding with the construction of the sugar factory it was designed to supply with water.
Axarquía and Sierra de Tejeda
The Alhama, Tejeda, and Almijara mountain ranges, declared a Natural Park in 1990, create a stunning landscape between Málaga and Granada, perfect for guests of Hotel Al Andalus Nerja seeking nature and adventure. The beach is spacious and sandy, where the Río La Miel and the Arroyo de los Colmenarejos rivers meet. To access the beach, take a right turn about 300 meters past kilometer 298 on the N-340 road, then descend to the old road.
